DAMN THE COMMUNITY! FULL SPEED AHEAD!
One thing that I keep seeing on the latest BDSM atrocity-er-net social networking atrocity, is a continuing refrain of "accepted by the BDSM community." I honestly do not know what manner of cowards and fools we are breeding these days but this is one that makes absolutely no sense to me. I mean, seriously, if there is something I want to do, I am not going to give a hoot in hell what the BDSM Community, whatever in Hades that may be at the moment, thinks about it. So really wonder what manner of gutless weenies, spawned in the belly of Black Rose, would actually care about such things.
And yet they are out there. They keep posting, keep thinking that somehow their precious community matters. Why can they not get it through their thick skulls that the BDSM Community, as a whole, counts for nothing? It does not matter what a given segment of it thinks or says about anything. It is nothing more than amalgam of fools and Badly Dressed Social Misfits who for some bizarre reason have gathered together because no one else can stand them. It can disapprove of something all it wants but there is not a god damned thing that it can do about it. So when I see that particular bit of silliness I cannot help myself from thinking back when my first book on Psionics was published and some old lady, bless her pointy little head, asked me with indignation, "Who gave you permission to do that?"
There was only one response that I could, or would ever give. "You asked the wrong question. The right question is, 'Who in hell is ever going to be able to stop me?' "
Never ask permission of the BDSM Community for anything. You do not need to. No one needs to. As long as you and your partner are happy, no one else has any say in the matter.
Once you understand that you are autonomous in these matters and learn to act as an autonomous agent, answering and answerable to no one, one who does not explain or justify anything because no one is important enough to have to justify anything to, then you will be free of the strictures and controls that the "community" may try to impose on you.
In the end, the only thing one need to say to the BDSM Community is to go stuff it. And that is the only answer it ever deserves.
