WE ARE TOO DAMNED NICE!!
I had the most bizarre experience yesterday. I let my curiosity get the better of me and I sat, and suffered, through a class on "conflict resolution" taught by Jay Wiseman. I should have known better.
To put it mildly, it was a dreadful waste of time. I mean maybe this silly talking circle thing might work out in San Francisco, but in our part of the world everyone would walk out in five minutes, assuming they were willing to give it a try in the first place. And as were driving home I was thinking about what was wrong with our people that such nonsense would be given a hearing in the first place. And I think I have the answer.
We are not willing to admit to ourselves who we really are.
We have put this vernier of niceness, of civility, of manners if you will over the fact that we are folks who enjoy torturing people. We do thing that in other contexts are considered war crimes and we do it for the fun of it.
We are not nice!
If we were really honest we would say that we don't give a damn if a conflict gets resolved. It can go on forever for all we care. All we want is to get our rocks off, to get our jollies, to hear screams of pain from helpless victims and it really does not matter if they are voluntary or not, that is something we are stuck with by living in this society.
Ok, we're stuck with it. But that does not mean that we cannot face the reality of our nature. Let us look in the mirror and see ourselves as the selfish, ruthless, hedonists that we are and let us learn to be proud of our selfishness and ruthlessness. Let us drop the vernier of civilization and be the next stage of human evolution that we are--Homo Horribilis, when man shall truly be wolf to man and the only people who are safe will be those powerful enough to be safe.
When we learn to embrace the darkness that is our true nature, to revel in it not merely in the play space but in our everyday life as well, when we learn to rejoice in the non-consensual sufferings of others that we see every day on the news, then we shall be free. We can drop the foolishness of pretending to be just like everyone else for we are not like everyone else.
We are the next stage of human evolution.
We are true heirs of the Gods.
And the Vanilla are nothing but food animals for the soul.
So I say to hell with civility, to hell with manners, to hell with community and consensus.
Forget all this nonsense about being accepted. First learn to accept yourself.
Then and only then will you be free.
