UNITY SUCKS
There are a number of words that really get me going, “tradition,” the “old guard,” “community,” etc., but one that really makes my skin crawl is UNITY! Why? Because it is never anything more than excuse to try to control people.
When the word is used, people who are not thinking, which pretty much includes most people in the scene, get this weird image of everyone sitting under a big tent, being all friendly and happy and probably singing Kumbaya. But in real life it does not work that way.
In real life, Unity=Tyranny!
Unity means the ultimate subordination of the individual to the community. It means that all differences, all disagreement can be stifled, crushed into blinding conformity so the community can stay “unified!”
What is the real picture of unity? Look at old film footage of Nazi Party rallies. That was unity. That is what unity is. Unity is not people being happy under a big tent. Unity is people being unhappy in a prison of their own making. Unity controls, unity censors, unity oppresses. And what is the picture of the souls of those who advocate it? See them in their brown shirts burning books. Deep down, those of the kind of people they are.
Screw it!
It does us no good. We can live well and happily without it. Let us rejoice in our disagreements and our divisions. Let us be contentious and argumentative. And let us never allow ourselves to be controlled or censored by those who use the word Unity.
To hell with it and to hell with them!
